Review: Sbrocco’s Donuts and Espresso, Charlottesville VA

Let’s cut to the chase: Sbrocco’s Donuts and Espresso in Charlottesville, VA is awesome.

The donuts are soft, fluffy, and incredibly light — sweet, but in a balanced way. I can’t tell you exactly why, but I suspect they use better ingredients at every stage. If each of five or six steps is 10% better than the competition, those small edges compound into a genuinely superior donut.

The staff were both friendly and polite, and were playing a series of pleasant indie-esque songs.

The staff were friendly and polite, with a soundtrack of pleasant indie-ish songs playing throughout. There’s a small but well-chosen selection of merch and a neon donut sign.

On the coffee side, I had a genuinely nice flat white, which they happily made even though it wasn’t on the menu. The “small” was a full 12 ounces — not really small by my standards. They also had soy, oat, and almond milk (plus cow’s, of course), so I was glad to have the soy option.

They had a nice selection of flavors including: Chocolate Cake, Sour Cream Cake, Cream Filled, Jam Filled (Raspberry when I visited), OG Nilla (vanilla, I think), Chocolate Sprinkles, Glazed, and more.

Sbrocco is a genuinely nice place, be sure to visit if you join us in Charlottesville!
